Post Miss Connecticut!

Hello everyone!!

Since Miss Connecticut, my life has been going non stop! I took another summer class, Abnormal Psychology, and finished the class was an A-. Also, I did out the math and found that I will definitely be graduating in 2011, an entire year before my class! After I graduate, I plan to attend the university of Hartford doctoral program so obtain my PsyD in the Childhood and Adolescence concentration track. I am so excited that I am one step closer to starting my career. I took my GRE in August and did very well, and I am taking my GRE subject test of Psychology in November. My research concentration has taken off and we are currently testing children at the local daycare. My cheerleading practices have taken off and I am having a n amazing year already! I have gotten my standing tuck back and my stunting is better than ever! I can't believe what a wonderful start my academic year has had :). HuskyTHON has also gotten off to a wonderful start. Dancer week is in November and we are working on fundraising ideas to raise awareness and funds for the Children's Miracle Network. Speaking of the CMN, I have made the decision to make CMN my official platform as a contestant within the Miss America Organization. The decision was not hard, as I have already raised $10,000.00 for the cause. Also, I participated in HuskyTHON 2010, which raised more than $150,000.00! This year will be even bigger and better, and I am thrilled to be working with a cause that means so much to me!

This past weekend, I attended the Bethlehem Fair with my phenomenal business manager, Phyllis Nordby. I spent the day with her and had a wonderful time recruiting contestants and raising awareness about our amazing program. Nancy and Roger Picard also came by to see me, as they were my business managers for Miss Wolcott 2009 and have become my wonderful friends as well! I was also surprised by flowers from Kyle, and rode the Ferris wheel - crown and all! It was so nice to see the community that I represent come together for such a wonderful event. I also had the opportunity to speak with Nancy Wyman, political figure, and learn her views on important issues facing our society. The day was great!

Next weekend I will be auditioning for Southington Icon, and visiting the Waterbury Branch of the Connecticut Children's Medical Center to play with just a few of the incredible kids they help. I can't wait to meet, play, and hear their stories!

Until next time,

Miss Connecticut!

Hello!

Miss Connecticut was the best experience of this year, by far! The new Miss Connecticut, Brittany Decker, deserved it and I am so proud of her. She is going to be a wonderful representative for our state, and at Miss America. I was fortunate enough to be chosen for the top ten, which was my goal from the beginning. I was so proud to stand next to the top ten young women in our state and to come back to Litchfield County proud of what I had accomplished at the state competition.

Before the State competition commenced, all the contestants went to the Gala, a fundraiser and sendoff party for all the contestants. Phyllis and I had a wonderful time, the food was incredible, and even Tiffany and Patty came to see me off! I was so grateful for all of the love and support that was there that night and it made me want to work so much harder to make them all proud!

The next day, I held a motorcycle fundraiser and raised over $500.00 for the Children's Miracle Network! That means, at total, we raised over $1,500.00. For a tough year, I was very proud of this total. That Sunday, Phyllis held a lunch for all the girls and our families before the limo picked us up! This was my first time in a limo and I was so excited to share that with my sister crowns and our business manager.

Once we arrived, all of the constant rehearsals began! The next morning, we went in for our interviews, and I came out so proud of what I accomplished, I was SO ready for the rest of competition to begin! The first night of preliminaries, I performed my talent. For talent, I sang the Frank Sinatra/ Michael Buble classic: "I've Got the World on a String." This song was a perfect mix of a Broadway feel and a ballad. It was the perfect choice, and I am so proud. Martha Price, Miss Bristol, the talent award that night, and she completely deserved it. She is a sweet girl, and I could not have picked a better recipient myself.

The next night, I competed in Onstage Question, Swimsuit, and Evening Wear. My onstage question was nerve wracking, but all-in-all I did better than expected, so I couldn't have asked for any more. :) Swimsuit was exciting for me, because I lost 10 pounds before the competition. Moreover, evening gown was my favorite part. I bought my evening gown in October, and I loved it just as much in competition as I did the day that I bought it! Then, on Saturday, they called my name for top ten! I couldn't believe it, and I almost hit the floor. Competing on Saturday night was the only thing I could has asked for! Then, at the end of the night, I was fortunate enough to watch my sister, Kirsten, make the top five!!! I was so proud, that I picked her up and cried! She was beautiful, and absolutely deserved the honor of being named 4th Runner Up.

I have a lot of plans for the next few months, and I can't wait to get started! See you all again soon! :)

With love,
CC

May/June 2010!

Hi Everyone!

Memorial Day was a wonderful weekend to be Miss Litchfield County! Woodbury's national anthem was extremely humbling. Veterans complimented my voice, and I have never been so touched. To me, singing the anthem for veterans is the highest honor there is, and for them to appreciate it as well is just icing on the cake! The Torrington and Harwinton parades were wonderful as well! Mary, Jordyn, Tara, and I had so much fun together, not to mention Sammie! She spent the whole weekend with us as our little guard dog! :)

June has been wonderful so far, and it's only the first week! On June 5th, we had our Miss Connecticut 2010 production rehearsal. This is always a wake-up call that Miss Connecticut is much too close to be slacking off at all! Kirsten, Mary, Arlene, and I drove up to Norwich together and had a fun time on the long car ride! Our opening number is SO much fun to be in, and the production rehearsal is also a great time to re-introduce ourselves to all the other contestants that we haven't gotten to see in a while. After rehearsal, Kirsten and I had a voice lesson in Norwich as well. Brittany and Sarah Decker were also there, and they all sound amazing. Talent this year is going to be a wonderful phase of competition, maybe even more so than other years! My song feels great, and I CAN'T wait to perform it for all of Connecticut!

On Sunday, the 6th, I was honored to sing the national anthem at the Portuguese Festival in Waterbury. Miss Greater Waterbury, Alexandria Puglisi, was unable to attend, so they asked me. Such a meaningful event was very surreal to sing for. So many people came out to celebrate their heritage, and I was so excited to be a part of that celebration! After Waterbury, I drove to West Hartford for the Cycle of Life celebration at St. Joseph's College for Connecticut Children's Medical Center's pediatric cancer survivors. I arrived at 12:45 pm, and spent over an hour walking with Scott Organek and meeting the children. I met 3 very special patients who loved to play basketball. So, I got on the court, heels and all! It was so much fun and the kids were so happy to see me, it canceled out any pain I had in my feet! I also played Wii with the kids, and took pictures (to come). Scott introduced me to one of his favorite oncologists and the event's coordinator. Every time I visit Connecticut Children's, it reminds me how badly I want to work for them, for the kids. I can't wait to dedicate my life to making their lives better.

I would also like to announce a fundraiser that I am holding on June 19, 2010. Children's Miracle Network will benefit from a motorcycle show held at 509 Wolcott Road in Wolcott, CT at Sandy's TV and Appliance. We are asking for no crowns and sashes, but if anyone would like to sing, we will have a sound system and the opportunity. As Gail said, public performance is a wonderful opportunity! It is a $10.00 admission, and there will be hot dogs, hamburgers, and pizza for refreshment. There will be certificates and prizes, entertainment, and a burnout pit!! Sandy's TV and Appliance has also offered to donate a portion of it's proceeds to CMN, as well as the barber shop next door. Miss Wolcott will be there greeting and welcoming others to the town! Line-up for the bikes is at 11:30 and the show is from 1-4pm. I know this is the day after the gala. but this should be a wonderful event and I would love it if my Miss CT family would come and support it.

That's all for now! I will blog again, right before Miss CT arrival!!!!

Updates!

Since my last post, I finished my Sophomore year of college! I finished this semester with a cumulative grade point average of a 3.245. I am now taking a May session course entitled "Intro to Political Theory," which I have eared a A- in so far. I can't wait to see my final grade and continue to bring my GPA up to the point to earn my goal of graduating Cum Laude, which oe must be in the top 15% of one's class to achieve. I have also gotten a summer job with a sales company, which is a HUGE load off my mind. :)

To the left, you will see my Miss Connecticut 2010 headshot! I am so excited that these are posted, because it means that the pageant is right around the corner! I am feeling so ready for this pageant because I have almost exactly one month left, and all that's left to do is to fine tune all that I have. Last time I posted, I had no swimsuit. Now I do, and I also have a Gala gown!! I am so excited to wear it as Miss Litchfield County, and represent my area in front of the state contestants and board of directors. My wardrobe is beautiful, and my talent is the best it has ever been. I have been working with Patty May, who would be my recommendation to anyone looking for a vocal coach. She is fun and kind, but also strict and ambitious. She has brought my talent selection for state to a whole new level that I didn't think was possible to reach.

Memorial Day weekend is coming up quickly, and it is one very big weekend that I have been looking forward to since being crowned as Miss Litchfield County 2010. The Litchfield County team does four parades in one weekend, and I can't wait! Phyllis actually afforded me the opportunity to sing the national anthem at the Woodbury parade, ad I can't wait! I will work my hardest to make this county proud of my voice! It also gives me a chance to spend an entire weekend with my sister queens, who have been helping me so much when it comes to fundraising and support for Children's Miracle Network. They are incredible, and the really touches my heart that they are receiving no immediate gratification and are still pushing forth to help their big sister queen. I think that the past four months of hard work have been quite indicative of the type of women these girls will grow up to be. I am so proud.

Speaking of fundraising, I have my biggest fundraiser yet in just 11 days! I am holding a "Pay for Play" in conjunction with the Willimantic radio station I98.3. The DJ for this station was an active participant of the Miss America program for years, and continues to support us with advertisement and publicity. I want to publicly thank her for the support and guidance she has lent me through this fundraiser. A Pay for Play is a fundraiser through which listeners call in, and pledge a minimum monetary amount to hear a certain song. The higher the bid, the more of a chance that we will play your song. Those whose songs are not played will not be charged, those whose songs are will donate straight into my Miss America/Children's Miracle Network Account. I am so grateful for the help that I have received, and I am working hard to meet my goal of $10,000.00 by the end of my reign as Miss Litchfield County. I am also pailshaking at the North Canaan Stop&shop on June 19, and at the Litchfield Dunkin' Donuts on June 12. These will definitely help me toward my goal.

That's all for now!

Update :)

Hello Again!

It's been much too long since my last post, and I apologize for that!! Things have been so busy! I actually got my wisdom teeth out since my last post, and although it was very frightening, it was completely worth it! No more headaches for me! :) Finals are just around the corner and I am getting a bit nervous! However, I did well last semester, so I am a bit more confident this time around. I also got my puppy!! She is a beautiful Pomeranian who is curious and a lovable ball of fluff! Her name is Samoa, and we call her Sammie for short, after my favorite girl scout cookie! We had some complications when w e first got her, but she is back to 100% and the best dog we could ever have asked for.

As for Miss Connecticut prep, I am still looking for a swimsuit, but other than that, I am completely set for wardrobe :) This is a first to be done with so much time until the pageant! I am holding numerous fundraisers to benefit the Children's Miracle Network and the Michael J. Fox Foundation. A Pancakes for Parkinson's will be coming up very soon, and I have two MAJOR fundraisers for the CMN planned. I have set a goal to surpass $5,000.00 this year, which is what I raised last year. Phyllis and the rest of my team are behind me 100% and I am so grateful to have them in my life.

I have also been named the Assistant Director of Fund raising for HuskyThon 2011!!! I have never felt more accomplished, as this is one more stepping stone toward my goal of being the Program Director at the CCMC. Last year was a phenomenal experience and afforded me the opportunity to meet a wonderful little girl named Kirsten. Kirsten had a heart condition and the CCMC saved her life. To the left is a picture of myself, my HuskyThon 2010 team, and Kirsten. To be part of the Board of Directors is an incredible feeling and allows me to be so much more involved. We are already starting for next year's HuskyThon!! This also means that I get to work closely with Scott Organek even more so than I do with the Miss Connecticut Organization!

I am taking two summer classes this year, and found out that I could, quite possibly, graduate an entire year early! I am so excited to be able to stat graduate school early, and get closer to my career goal as early as possible! Well that's all for now, but please keep checking for updates on fundraisers!

With Love,
Cassandra

Update!

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry you haven't heard from me, it's been a very busy two weeks! I would first like to extend my congratulations to the newest, and last, members of the Miss CT class of 2010: Amber Caron, Miss Nutmeg 2010, Dana Brooks, Miss Constitution 2010, and Sarah Lord, Miss Mountain Laurel 2010. The class is now complete, and I cannot wait to begin getting to know these girls a bit better in anticipation of our week together in New London!

My competitive cheerleading team for UConn had two competition this season. The first competition was not our best performance, but we still took first place! Our second competition we were competing against Quinnipiac University, a very talented team. We gave a much better performance and our team was thrilled with how well we executed our skills. We came in second to QU, but with how well we did and how happy we all were, I could have sworn we came in first! I now have a month off of cheerleading before tryouts for next season, which means I'll definitely have to be going to the gym to keep in shape for Miss CT!

Academically, my semester is going very well. I just received a 95 on my statistics exam, which means I am receiving an A so far in that class. I have all A's and B+'s to date, which means another semester with a 3.6 is perfectly tangible. I am happy to say that my major of Psychology is all that I thought it would be. After switching my major a few times, I am thrilled to be settled in and loving it!

As for UConn Idol, I, unfortunately, did not make it to the final ten. However, this by no means distracts or delays me from pursuing my love for music. There are other competitions, and there is always Miss CT to showcase my talent! By the way, I have picked my song! Al though I would like to keep it a surprise, I want you all to know that I am in love with the song and I am already having fun just practicing it! On that note, I have also picked all of my wardrobe for Miss CT. I hope that all of you come out to see me model it on the Miss CT stage in New London in June!

On a personal note, I am getting a puppy! I am so excited to be adopting (probably a Jack Russell Terrier) in May when school gets out. The one that I am looking at is beautiful, with brown and white patterns and floppy ears! I am planning to name her Jasmine, after Princess Jasmine in Aladdin, as most of our animals are named after Disney characters. I am so excited!

That's all for now! I will write again soon!

Until next time,

HuskyThon and Future Plans!!

Hello Everyone!

I cannot even describe in words how busy, chaotic, hectic, and completely rewarding the entirety of this weekend was! This weekend kicked off on Friday when my total fundraising for Huskython rose to over $1,000.00! I was so proud of and grateful to my sister queens and team of support from Litchfield County for the countless cupcakes and hours we all put in to raise this money for the children. I truly could not have been this successful without the entire team supporting me every step of the way.

HuskyThon itself kicked off on Saturday at 6:00 pm with opening ceremonies and the introduction of dancer reps/team leaders to the families they were sponsoring for the night. The Club Competitive Cheerleaders were so lucky in this lottery because we got to sponsor Kirsten Thiebault, a one year old little girl with cardiology issues. I met her, and fell in love. We spent the whole 4 hours that she stayed together. We laughed, she cried, and her mother even asked me to babysit her!! She lives in Southington, so I cannot wait to start!

Once Kirsten left, staying on our feet got a bit harder! However, the committee did a fantastic job of keeping activities going all night to keep our morale up! We also heard the tremendous stories of countless children who went through treatments at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Once I heard those, my feet didn't seem to hurt as badly! Also, there were raffles, endless entertainment, and I got to spend some time with my friend Scott Organek, the program director of the CCMC. At the end of the night awards went to top fundraisers, and I was THRILLED to receive 3rd place in the individual category. This award means that I am well on my way to becoming the Fundraising Coordinator for the CCMC/CMN.

Once HuskyThon was over, I fell into bed for a few hours, but had to get right back up for a cheerleading practice! We will be competing for the first time on Sunday the 28th, and I am so excited! I haven't competed for cheerleading since high school and I can't wait to feel the rush of excitement that I have come to miss so much. I will be sure to post the results in my next blog!!

After cheerleading, Kyle drove me back home to Wolcott (so I wouldn't fall a sleep at the wheel!!) so that I could get ready for my first interview at WZBG Morning Show in Litchfield. I was so excited to be able to publically introduce myself to the county that I so humbly represent. Dale was wonderful and I was able to speak about my experience with HuskyThon and my future plans to raise funds for the Michael J. Fox foundation and the CMN. I w as also able to speak about myself personally, letting the county truly get to know their representative. I can't wait to go back a little later in my year to speak, hopefully, about attaining the goals that I have already set!

Although I was unable to attend both local pageants this weekend, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my warmest well wishes and congratulations to the newest members of the Miss Connecticut Class of 2010: Lisa Nemense, Miss Greater Watertown 2010, and Gretchen Hahn, Miss Greater North Haven 2010. I cannot wait to spend more time with each of them, as they have both been the state before. The week spent in New London is sure to be incredible!

As you can all see, my weekend was full and chaotic, but worth every single second. Now it's time to study for an exam and plan my upcoming events. Please be on the lookout here and on the Miss Connecticut Guestbook page for announcements for fundraisers!

Until next time,
Cassandra Mastrianni
